About Matt

From a Beach Boys cassette to a solo-built album

Matt's story with music starts at five years old, on a family vacation to Long Beach Island, New Jersey, where a cassette of The Beach Boys' Endless Summer got played until everyone else was tired of hearing it — he wasn't. Piano lessons as a kid turned into guitar in high school, then years of writing songs and playing in local bands with friends. Life eventually pulled him down a more traditional path — Villanova, a master's degree, a career leading Treasury transformation for Fortune 500 and multinational companies — but the writing never stopped: unfinished demos, voice memos, scribbled lyrics, and melodies that lived only in his head, waiting for someday.

Someday finally arrived. After getting sober in 2020, Matt started asking what he actually wanted to build — and a 2024 afternoon spent floating in the Adriatic off Dubrovnik answered it. He built a home studio, started waking up at 5:00 every morning so his evenings belonged to music, and chased progress over perfection until twelve songs came to life, with his longtime friend Adam Accetta on drums. Since releasing his first single "Foolin' the Fool" in June 2025, he's learned the journey is really about connection: finding common ground with people he's never met through three or four minutes of music.

It's never too late to begin again.

About The Process

5 a.m. mornings, one pair of hands

Every Matt Strout song is built from the ground up in the home studio he put together for exactly this purpose. The day starts at 5:00 a.m. so the evenings belong to music: some days that means tracking guitars or vocals, others it means studying production techniques, organizing sessions, writing lyrics, or humming an idea into his phone before it disappears. Writing, arranging, recording, producing — every step happens in the same room, by the same pair of hands.

The songs were envisioned as full-band records from the very beginning. Matt started by programming the drum parts himself before reconnecting with longtime friend Adam Accetta — one drum track became twelve, with Adam playing drums across the entire album. The rule that carries every session is simple: progress over perfection. Better instruments instead of more excuses, a little further every day, until the sounds he'd been hearing in his head for decades finally exist in the real world.
